Genieo virus alive and well in 2018
Can anyone help me with instructions to find and remove any entries made on my MacOS by the malicious Genieo.fs installer please? See the below post from a few years back about it:
I just got it on my Mac and, as known about Genio / Genieo, it masqueraded as a legitimate Adobe Flash update with Adobe developer signature. But it looks like it’s evolved and I don’t know if it is as innocent as before, hence I am putting it in the Virus category — because the installer seems more dangerous than the script itself:
Three times during its installation process it displayed a prompt asking for my system administrator password to allow it to install a Helper Tool, and I lamentably fell for it and provided it. In retrospect this might not have been legitimately coming from my MacOS but made to look like it and coming from the installation for the script itself that may have sent my admin password out to the makers of it for possible future exploits (phishing, keylogging?).
I’ve now changed my admin password and I’ve quarantined the original installation file (PlayerSetup.dmg).
