Screenshot app not working

In Mojave Grab has been replaced by Screenshot. The app is dysfunctional. After the image is obtained the selection box remains on the screen with the rest of the screen greyed out. The only solution I found was to restart, force quit does not solve the problem. The other solution is to use command-shift-4 which uses a different process to selection part of the screen.

If there is another solution I would like to know, otherwise I think there is some debugging work to be done by Apple.

MacBook Air, macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

I've used the screenshot key combos for years and they have always worked through different OS versions. Command + Shift + 4 captures a selectable part of the screen and here is an Apple article on some other options:

Not sure what exactly you were trying to accomplish, but I just verified that I can use Screenshot in Mojave to capture a screen area and did not have the same issue you are getting doing so. FWIW. I tried both the <shift><cmd><4> & <shift><cmd><5> options. Neither left the selection box enabled after I made the capture.
