iPad Excessive Wi-Fi data usage (uploading data)

What can I do to stop an IPad Air 2 from uploading an excessive amount of data? This problem started immediately after performing a software update to ver 12.1. Uploading as much as 8.5 GB’s in three hours. I’ve turned off everything I can find with no success.

The traffic is uploaded data as determined by an app Iinstalled as well as my cellular provider whenI connected via hotspot. I too thought this had something to do with pictures so I turned off anything related to ICloud and the problem continue. For the moment I have turned off automatic updates, app background refresh, and all diagnostic reporting and it seems to have stopped and functioning normal. I plan to turn each thing back on and monitor the traffic. The battery monitor is a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that.

Thanks

You have an app that is trying to download data, and probably is failing and retrying. Another possibility is You have thousands of photos that are syncing from iCloud to your iPad. As it's Wi-Fi and not cellular there is no system service that can identify the app like you can with Settings/Cellular, but you can possibly get the information indirectly by going to Settings/Battery and seeing which app is using the most energy.

Out of curiosity, how can you tell the amount of Wi-Fi used by your iPad? iOS does not track it.
