Problem attach pencil to new IPAD PRO 12.9

I have the new IPAD pro 12.9 and the new 2nd generation pencil but when connecting to the magnetic portion of the IPAD nothing happens.

Also it seems that on my 12.9 IPAD the magnetic part is on the left side of the IPAD and not on the right as I can see in all videos. any ideas ? is my IPAD or pencil is damaged?
