Time machine couldn't backup

Time Machine Failed to Backup

After updating to Mojave my time machine will no longer backup to my external or airport extreme. I get the following error in time machine and I have also copied the logging errors. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you happen to have App Cleaner & Uninstaller installed and recently upgraded to version 6.0 then the problem is likely due to a bug in that app. The link below is to their website; the instructions given there fixed my Time Machine error that you mentioned above. Also note that Nektony claims that v6.2 of AC&U fixes the problem. I've uninstalled their app so I can't verify that.

Thank you, I have tried all of the following steps with no luck. I am starting to run out of ideas.

  • Ran disk utility on MacBook Pro and external
  • Erased the external; tried a normal erase and secure 7 pass erase
  • Reformatted the external to Mac journaled, Mac journaled encrypted, APFS, and APFS encrypted
  • reset SMC and PRAM
  • Repaired disk permissions
  • Turned off the firewall
  • Removed my VPN
  • Scanned computer for malware
  • Deleted com.apple.TimeMachine.plist”
  • Deleted local time machine snapshots

I bought a new external drive and it failed; gave me the same error message. As for repairing disk permissions; with AFPS it is exceedingly rare to have the permissions get corrupted. So they removed it from disk utility but the ability is still available in the OS. Open terminal and run the script below to repair disk permissions.

diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u`
