apple mail settings

on our Mac & IPad we use apple mail. Recently the following began to happen - when we send an email from either the Mac or iPad the sent email shows on both machines - when we delete an email in the inbox, sent box or junk box on either the Mac or iPad the email is deleted on both machines - where do I find the needed settings to change to eliminate this problem ? THANKS

OBS,MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

It would seem that the mail account you have configured is an IMAP account, and it is working just the way it is supposed to. If you do not wish to see this action, you would need to configure a POP account, however not all mail providers will support POP mail anymore. It is not a problem, it is working perfectly the way it is supposed to.
