AppleID - Changing ISP makes email address defunct, what's the impact if I already have a different primary email address associated?

I'm changing ISP at the end of the week (due to issues with my existing one), and want to understand the impact on the Apple ID.

My Apple ID is of the format address@oldISP.com (so that email will cease to exist at the end of the week).

However, quite some time ago, I migrated the primary email address associated with my AppleID to a Gmail one.

Do I need to change the Apple ID as the email address used for that is different to the associated primary email address and recovery email addresses? Everything I read suggests not to because problems are likely to ensue.

If I have to make the change it will be significant due to having lived in the Apple eco-system since the 1990s.

I have a MacBook, 4 iPhones and 2 live iPads associated with the Apple ID.
There is also an iMac HDD that I plan to recover later in the year when I get a new machine, and an old iPad 1 and iPad 2, plus a pair of Apple TVs.

I'd appreciate your advice

You can change the email address that you use as your Apple ID. See the instructions in Change your Apple ID - Apple Support and be sure to note the following from that link:

Before you change your Apple ID email address, you need to sign out of every Apple service and device that uses your Apple ID. If you want to use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to change your Apple ID, stay signed in to your Apple ID on just that device.

If your Apple ID email address is now a Gmail address, you don't need to do anything. If not, what is the primary address?

Thanks for that - what I was trying to establish was whether I needed to change if I’d changed the primary address in settings to the gmail one. In other words, if Apple use the gmail address to contact me (which they do) is the old email in the ISP just a username?

When you sign in somewhere, for example the App Store, which email address do you use? If the old ISP email address, I would try to change that to the Gmail address using the link FoxFifth posted as a guide. You may not be able to do that since the Gmail address is associated with the ID. You would need to get a different email address to replace the old ISP address.
