Apple Music Reset Preferences

Everyday when I go to look at my apple music suggestion it’s the same playlists. I recently got a new phone and have been trying to update my music preferences, but when I go to my profile I’m Apple Music the button for “choose artists for me” is not there. I have signed out and signed back on. Nothing is working though

Hello caitlin,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand you want to edit your music preferences. I can help with this. Apple Music uses your likes and dislikes to suggest music for you in the For You section of the app.

Personalize Apple Music - Apple Support

The For You section of Apple Music is where you'll find personalized music recommendations and mixes created just for you. The recommendations and songs in the mixes are influenced by:

  • The music that you listen to from the Apple Music catalog.
  • What you love or dislike.
  • The genre and artist choices that you made when you first joined Apple Music.

While listening to Apple Music, you can love and dislike music to refine your recommendations:

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: While listening to a song, tap the player at the bottom of the screen to open the Now Playing screen. Tap User uploaded file, then choose User uploaded file Love or User uploaded file Dislike.
  • On your Mac or PC: Hold your pointer over the song name at the top of iTunes, then click User uploaded file and choose Love or Dislike.
  • On your Android device: While listening to a song, tap the player at the bottom of the screen to open the Now Playing screen. Tap User uploaded file, then choose User uploaded file Love or User uploaded file Dislike.

If you change your mind, you can change your selection. On your iOS device or Android device, tap User uploaded file Love or User uploaded file Dislike again to clear it. On your Mac or PC, choose Loved or Disliked to clear it.

You can also say "Hey Siri" and tell Siri if you love or dislike a song.

Listen to mixes

In For You, you'll see up to four different mixes that refresh weekly: Chill Mix, Favorites Mix, Friends Mix, and New Music Mix. You won’t see any mixes until you've used Apple Music for a while so that we can understand your taste. To access the Friends Mix, you need to set up sharing and have Apple Music Friends.

If you add any and download any of the mixes to your library, the refreshed songs will automatically download to your device each week.

Take care.

"Choose artists for me" no longer exists, it is now done purely on love and dislike buttons, plus what you play, plus your preferences when you first log on. there is some help here https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204842

There is no current way to clear history, which is disappointing. If someone with an active applecare account wants to ask support why and let us know that would be good, because my daughter no longer uses my account and all her listening history is affecting my for you playlists..., but I'm sure over time that will rectify itself.

Absolute foolishness

I have used this service for 6 months now and have never been more frustrated with the interface to poorest ability to change your likes and dislikes. I tread even listening to some of the songs that come up for even a second but I am usually unable to access my phone to hit the dislike feature or get Siri attention to tell her because the music is interfering with the voice commands. Just simply provide an advanced option to remove genres, songs from history, playlist, etc in one false swoop.

I really don't feel its worth keeping this service without some serious changes - poorly done guys.

Can you please answer the question? This answer is not practical or useful to serve your customers!!Apple music has a series problem...no longer (it seems) can we control what you send us. HOW DOES ONE CHANGE THE MUSIC PREFERENCES (genre and artist choices) ORIGINALY SETUP? You send the same playlists and selections almost everyday. This is NOT service!! Apple is turning into a crappy company if you don't want to serve or honor your customers! I will have to switch to Spotify f you cannot improve this and fix this.

It's mindless decisions like this one to remove the "reset listening preferences" capability that is forcing me away from the Apple ecosystem. I've already purchased my first new Windows PC in fifteen years. I haven't bought a new iphone in three years. Your new laptops are garbage. Keep on the path you're headed down. It's getting easier to switch back every time. Looks like I'll be switching to Spotify next...

The official Apple answer is beyond ridiculous. So when a 5 year old comes by and plays a bunch of stuff I don't like, I simply have to sit through terrible recommendations for the next couple of weeks? Apple's "our way or the highway" attitude is really frustrating here. But there's a third option that I'll now unfortunately have to migrate to: Spotify! ...which is a shame cause they pay the artists much worse..

Darn, that's a good point actually... However for some reason their recommendations seem to be much better than Apple's. Like, I really really dislike most of the music that its recommending me. Spotify is much better in this domain but - as I said - they pay the artists really poorly. I'd hardly call myself a "spotify poster" though - it's just that I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Maybe Napster is a better choice? I'll do some research.
