delete files on MacBook but not from icloud

I want to get more space on my wifes macbook to u/g to Mojave but if I try to delete files (mostly photo and music) it warns me that they will be deleted from my other devices as well

How can I delete the files just from the macbook

Hey Bob,

I see that you have some concerns about deleting items from your MacBook, because you're getting the message that it'll delete from iCloud.

It sounds like you have iCloud syncing on for your MacBook Pro. You can turn off certain content from syncing to iCloud, or turn off iCloud completely by going to System Preferences > iCloud. Learn more here: Set up iCloud on your Mac - Apple Support

Good morning Bob!

You're correct that if you turn on iCloud after deleting content, the information in iCloud will sync to your MacBook so images or other data that you deleted may return if it's in iCloud. You can always visit iCloud.com using a browser on a computer to see what content you have in iCloud.

I am assuming that if I turn on iCloud afterwards the problem will recur immediately so I have to decide what I want to share.
