Apple Classroom - Students Offline

Students Appear Offline in Apple Classroom

This is a CONSTANT problem for our district. We have random students that appear offline in their teacher's apple classroom. Both ipads are connected to the same wifi and bluetooth is on as well.

Steps we've taken:

1)Checking wifi/bluetooth

2)Removing student and adding back in

3)Hard resetting the student ipad

4)Verified updated iOS and Classroom App

Sometimes I'm able to wipe the student's ipad completely and start it over. That seems to help for a short time, but sometimes they come back and tell me a teacher can't see them again.

What is could/should we do?!?!

What, if any, MDM is your District using, we use Jamf. I have seen that issue as well but ended up seeing that not all of the devices were updating to the current IOS after the MDM command was pushed and it showed pending.

Ended up up restoring the iPad so that it had the latest IOS as well as checking the same on the teacher device and it seems to have corrected the issue.

I found that as well when the MDM was reading data from the SIS, it duplicated accounts. You should be able to catch it during the class importing step.

This is really a big problem for schools. But using an MDM solution can resolve this problem. We are using MobiLock Apple MDM solution to manage and secure students iPad and all students must login through same id that you have created.

Also if the students have multiple accounts in your MDM, make sure you have the one selected that is associated with the device. This has caught us up a time or two.
