Unable to mount encrypted AFPS external HDD

Hello All,

After upgrading to Mojave 10.14.1, I tried to get into my files stored on an external HDD which has been encrypted and the password is correct, however I cannot access my files!! See the images attached and any help would be highly appreciated!

Previously (High Sierra) I could just double click the .dmg file, type in my password, and it would mount the volume. I just upgrade to Mojave, and now whenever I double click the .dmg file, I get an error message saying "The following disk images couldn't be opened" and it lists my .dmg file and next to it under "Reason" says "Permission denied". I'm not sure what changed within the file system that is causing this problem, but I'd like to be able to access the contents of this disk image!

I have a Format dropdown with just a few options, none of which is an encrypted file format. I also have no "Encrypt disk" options in my context menu, which apparently is a standard feature in Mojave. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

how do you encrypt external hard drives with a Mac Book Air running Mojave 10.14.6 please ? How do you encrypt external hard drives with a Mac Book Air running Mojave 10.14.6 please ? Fire Vault only allows me to list the internal hard drive, Finder does not give me the option to encrypt plug ins and disk utility erase does not offer me any encrypted file types, so none of the on line advice works. I seem to have lost the options through software updates.
