The button to add people is greyed out on my tool bar in my icloud drive, I want to securely share files with a friend. Is there a way to do it, like drop box? I want to share just one folder not the whole drive.

Missing the 'Add people' in dropdown.
You can share document, for collaboration but not folders. Are you seeing the "AddPeople", if you are select a document to share? Not all types of documents are eligible for sharing.
For example, if I select a Filemaker document for sharing, "Add People" is available, but not for the enclosing folder.

Please post a screen of it , hide your document name , no mail address should be revealed , or the user name .
