Automatically adjust brightness is not working on all my 3 iMacs. I have the latest High Sierra. I tried PRAM reset and SMC, no luck. I even called apple support. Is there an easier fix than reinstalling High Sierra.

The adjustment is subtle. If you have the brightness set at about 50%, then shine a flashlight at the top of the screen, you should see the slider move in System Preferences > Displays.
Wow, I would never guess in a million years! The slider does move, applying the light on the top of the screen.
Still, 2 unsolved mystery remain, a) restarting the computer in the morning, the dark screen remains from last night use.
b) moving the slider all the way to the left, with auto-adjsutment off, and turning it on, the dark screen remains dark, in spite off the bright room.
Not exactly a big mystery. The automatic brightness is to maintain the brightness level set by the slider. If you move it to the far left, that makes the screen dark, so the automatic brightness control would make sure the screen remains dark even in a bright room.
You are correct! Thanks, if I leave the slider alone it moves gradually, "subtle."
So many people think that they have this issue and reinstalling operating system. In fact, Apple senior advisor suggested reinstalling the High Sierra. funny.
