iPhone 7 Battery won’t hold a charge for long

Why does my iPhone 7 battery keep draining down to nothing when I just charged it completely? I’ve tried everything to improve the battery length, but nothing is helping. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

iPhone 7, iOS 12.1

Hello kimberyee,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities and asking about your iPhone battery. Let me offer some things to check for this.

First and most important will be to check out this help article about batteries: Maximizing Battery Life and Lifespan Tips for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

The article includes lots of great information along with multiple tips to help you maximize your battery life. Once you have gone through all the tips, if you are still experiencing issues, this help article talks about the importance of using and storing your device within the recommended temperatures: Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support

If you are using your device in conditions outside of the normal recommended ambient temperatures, the device may behave differently than described in that article.

Next, I recommend checking your settings. Please review all your settings to ensure you are getting maximum life from your battery based on how you utilize your iPhone. This article will help: About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Another thing you can check is Background App Refresh and adjust as necessary. This can be found in Settings > General > Background App Refresh. This article talks about this: Switch apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Use Background App Refresh

After you switch to a different app, some apps run for a short period of time before they're set to a suspended state. Apps that are in a suspended state aren’t actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. With Background App Refresh, suspended apps can check for updates and new content.

If you want suspended apps to check for new content, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn on Background App Refresh. If you quit an app from the app switcher, it might not be able to run or check for new content before you open it again.
