11" iPad Pro to iMac connectivity

I just bought an 11" iPad Pro. I would like to connect it to my late 2013 iMac so I can connect it to iTunes. The iMac has Thunderbolt 2 and USB-A ports, and of course the iPad is Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C). I'm finding a lot of conflicting and confusing information about cables and adapters. What do I need?

I suppose you can use one of these:

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple

I looked at that, but many reviews seem to state that it is not as bidirectional as claimed. People seem to have issues with connecting USB-C devices to Macs with Thunderbolt 2 ports, which is my situation.
