Creating a symbolic link

I would like to create a symbolic link for to my external drive for my iTunes Backups cause i dint have enough space on my Mac to back up my phone, but when I enter the terminal command this happens :

When I got o check the folder on the local drive it doesn't have the arrow in the bottom left symbolising that it is connected to the symbolic link, what am I doing wrong ?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

There's already an item in that location. Move or rename it first.

The arrow appeared now but it still gives that message in terminal, but now iTunes is giving a "backup did not complete because the backup is corrupt" error message.
