Strange transparent box on screen; cannot move or delete it

I suddenly got a strange horizontal, transparent box in the middle of my screen on my iMac, and I can't move it, delete it, or anything. When I click on it, it is as if I clicked on what is under it, which I can see, but of course it is maddening. I have no idea what put it there. But I want to get rid of it!!!!!!!! I have restarted my computer, to no avail.

In searching for answers, I see references to System Preferences, Mouse or Accessibility, and they reference options that are not shown in my system (Sierra 10.12.??)

I would be so grateful for some help with this!

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Update: it went away. I'll use my husband's favorite phrase: "I don't really KNOW what I did!" I will say that after getting thoroughly frustrated and trying random things, I was pressing the fn key and various F keys on the keyboard, and suddenly at the top of the screen, I saw "screen 1, screen 2, screen3" so I clicked on "Screen 2" and got a solid blue background instead of the screen wallpaper I had earlier set. But, the bar was gone, and everything else looked the same. Then I tried to get back to that screen, but no. Then, using the Preferences, I got my photos back on the wallpaper and went on with things. I'd STILL like to know what that was all about, but it isn't so urgent any more. Thanks!
