incoming call does not show contact name

the caller name used to be displayed on my iPhone 6s, but some time ago, with some upgrade I’m guessing, that changed and all I see now is a phone number. I’ve recently upgraded to the Xr and I still have the same issue. Not very helpful. Is there some way to change this?

Check again, and make sure the number format is the same.

You will only see the caller name if the number and name is in your contacts.
