I have a 2011 15" MacBook Pro, how can I connect an external monitor with most likely an HDMI cable to my MBP?
I want to close the lid of the MBP, use wireless keyboard and mouse.
Can anyone tell me exactly what type of hardware(adapter I am guessing) I would need and how to set it up to keep the lid closed as I described please?

The Thunderbolt port is used for video out. It's a Mini-DisplayPort which uses a Mini-DisplayPort cable which has the Thunderbolt plug on it.
Here's the whole cable: Belkin 4K Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable (2 m/6.5 ft.).
What port is used for video out on the computer? Should look like a Thunderbolt 2 port. You need a Thunderbolt cable for use with a Mini-DisplayPort. If you need an adapter it will probably be to connect to one of the ports available on the monitor.
