is 'avc1' a supported video file codec?

After seeing the Apple message that some codecs will not be supported in future OS releases, I've begun to identify which of my 6TB of video will need to be dealt with. One very common codec is 'avc1' and it seems possibly the same as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. What is 'avc1' and will it be supported?

iMovie / QT compatibility with AAC- HEVC video files hello, unable to open a video downloaded from a webinar plateform (AAC, HEVC) with QT or iMovie. QT says : "file contains some content that are not compatibles with QT". When open, the file seems to be only audio... But VLC can handle the video. Any hint on what's wrong with this file or the Apple softwares ..? Thanks for any information - Guillaume

"Computer" format does not allow for choosing video codec I am trying to export as an mp4, and so my only choice is to choose the "computer" format option in the export settings, but when I do that, I can't choose the H.264 Better Quality option. It only allows the H.264 Faster Encode option. It won't even allow me to change it. I haven't found anything about this issue anywhere else.

Thanks. Is 'avc1' equal to AVCHD? Discussions I've read were not clear about this
