MBP late 2013 compatibility with Dell Monitor U2718Q

Hi community,

I recently just bought a Dell Monitor U2718Q and am going to use it with my MBP retina late 2013 (which I believe is capable of running 4K resolution). Currently, I am connecting my MBP using Display port to Thunderbolt cable.

My questions are:

  • how do we actually use a 4K monitor with our MBP?
    • Obviously when I connect to the monitor with default resolution setting, all the fonts and everything will appear really small. If I choose to bring down the resolution to 1920 x 1018 then there's no need to get a 4K monitor, right?
    • so how do we actually use 4K monitor?
  • is it compatible with macOs at all?

the latest driver that Dell has for this monitor can only be run from Windows machine

  • the color quality that I am seeing in the monitor is not that great and it makes my eyes really tired
    • I read some review on LG monitor and how it supports macOs in terms of providing software to calibrate the color
    • can this be done with this Dell monitor?

I mean, I really like this monitor but if it's not compatible with macOs, I might want to refund it and purchase an LG monitor instead to avoid problems in the future.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

Its a very good 4k display. User uploaded file

I use 2560 x 1440. Use option key plus scaled to get the RETINA option of resolution.

4K will be too tiny to use but the advantage of the 4K is the PPi , its about 145. Test will be clearer. Its also a MATT screen so not as bright compared to an Apple Thunderbolt Display but much more sharper.

Youdon't use a thunderbolt cable to connect but a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. I bought one off amazon ACCELL. Cables do matter.

This display works with El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave. Also works with Yosemite but after a restart Yosemite loses its ARRANGMENT if running two displays. Forget Mavericks.
