Apple Watch Series 4 - Scratch on day 4

Just got a new Series 4 Alu 44mm... it's day 4 and I've managed to get a 0.75cm scratch on it with absolutely no recollection of any impact event. I had no idea just how fragile the screen would be when it's not the sapphire glass. I am disappointed in this. It doesn't seem right. Had I known, I would have bought a screen protector. Are others finding this issue? Is this to-be-expected?

My cellular network provider (EE) has decided not to offer stainless steel models. If they had I would have gotten one of those instead. I previously owned an original stainless steel model.

  1. You could still add a screen protector which will hide the scratch and reduce the risk of further scratching.
  2. Given that the scratch is cosmetic there is no reason you can’t go online and add AppleCare+ from the comfort of your home. This will give you two years coverage and two incidents of accidental damage if you find it necessary to claim in the future. Apple Watch - AppleCare+ - Apple (UK)

I understand you are feeling bad about your watch’s scratched screen but let me tell you one thing every apple devices are sort of sensitive i.e. prone to get scratched easily, as far as apple watches are concerned they too are scratchy. I also have Apple Watch Series 4 and I have put tempered glass onto the screen and also have ordered a transparent case for my apple watch for total protection. Hope this solves your problem for future preferences.

Just visited Apple store for almost the exact same thing.

Had my watch 24 days.

I work in an office and wear it when I run.

It's not like I'm doing construction or anything.

Response from associate was, "Sorry...it's cosmetic...But we can replace the whole unit for only $10 less than a new one...but you can't get Apple Care on it. "

Obviously a refurbished replacement unit...terribly disappointed.

Bought my granddaughter a Fitbit Versa, instead of this watch, for Christmas.

My Blaze is still in pristine shape after years, trips to gym, trips abroad and camping trips.

This experience has definitely changed my opinion of customer "care" with Apple.

Good luck!!

I owned a Series 3 for a year, when I traded it in it had no scratches at all, I have been wearing my new series 4 for 2 months and the top section of my screen has hundreds of micro scratches, it seems to me they lowered the quality of the glass, the only solution Apple is providing is for me to pay $69 to replace the screen using my Apple care+. I don't feel it is fair I have to pay for it, they should replace it, it should be covered by the warranty. I am so frustrated and disappointed.
