Mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting

Ever since I installed MacOS Mojave (now 10.14.1) I have been having trouble connecting the Apple mouse and keyboard. Both had always been working fine (over a year).

Now they don't connect or lose connection when the mac wakes up. Sometimes they reconnect after a few minutes.

I have tried all the obvious thing like deleting the bluetooth list in Library/Preferences, but the problem hasn't gone away.

Sometimes it works, then the connectivity fails again.

A reply to a previous post about this suggested to restart the SMC, which I did and which solved the problem at the time. (the post was then marked as solved so I have to re-start the thread). However, it happened again today, so the SMC restart didn't seem to have been a permanent fix.

Is there anything else that can be done?

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015), macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

Hi everyone ..... HAVE SOLUTION ...... most likely.

There is another forum on here, somewhere that I ran across.

The problem is the Android File Transfer app ..... everyone that was having the bluetooth disconnecting, etc. just deleted this app and everything went back to normal, and working .... including me.

I restarted after deleting just to make sure, but I've been problem free for over a week now ..... others MUCH longer!!!

Interesting.

I have been suggesting to Apple that if they supplied a corded keyboard & mouse and took away the 'magic' devices then I would be happy. But that solves nothing for other users and the problem will persist.

I'm still working with my dedicated (in more ways than one) Apple Support person to isolate and fix the problem. Keep on it Gabriel!!

If it were a hardware failure then why did moving to safe mode or to a vanilla administrator profile seem to not cause the disconnects??

It all seems to happen when I am using the Mac under my own profile. I'm up to 11 pages in my log of events. Done two dumps of log files etc. for Apple to look at.

Because they don't come back with a definitive - this is the reason why - answer, I think that they might be perplexed and don't know how to fix the problem.

World-wide prayers for an illuminating ray of enlightenment might be a worthwhile exercise.

Here's what I sent to my Apple Support person. (Yes - I do have one contact person to deal with so that he is up to speed with the case and what has been done to date.)

"Since doing the restart rather than sleep, we have had only two instances in the last two days where the Connection Lost windows popped up for both keyboard and mouse. But fairly close behind were Keyboard and Mouse Connected windows popping up and I didn’t have to do a power down/up.

What does that reveal? If sleep mode is used, the disconnects occur. If restart is used instead, disconnects do not occur 95% of the time and when they do, the keyboard and mouse reconnect with minimal delay. So it has something to do with when the Mac goes into sleep mode and/or it has something to do with a volatile setting that gets cleared when restart is used. This might give the software writers/debug specialists something to go on."

As mentioned in the previous note, the more information that we can provide the better as it must help narrow down the focus so, if you have a support contact, work through them.

By the way, I am up to page 18 of my log of when the disconnects occus and when the don't just in case some sort of pattern emerges. It will also be a helpful document should I need to look at a warranty situation, which I do not want to do as I really do like working with Mac software - except, of course, with when it goes rogue and locks me out.

Not precisely the same issue, but I have a Logitech multi-device keyboard & mouse and post-Mojave the keyboard won't reconnect after switching away. The keyboard shows up in the Bluetooth device list, and seems to be connected, but it doesn't work. It worked flawlessly for a year under High Sierra and failed on the initial boot after upgrading to Mojave.

Strangely, the mouse continues to work just fine -- it connects and re-connects without issue.

I've created a separate forum post for my issue but thought I'd reply here to reinforce for Apple that there are serious BT connectivity issues with Mojave.

Had been dealing with the exact same thing you were and literally as soon as I deleted the Android File Transfer app, the problem stopped. Perhaps there is a similar app that is causing. I am on High Sierra, but many on this other discussion were on Mojave, so give it a look and maybe that discussion can help.

its definitely the Android file transfer app - I also deleted mine and tried to install an alternative but it also caused the problem of mouse and keyboard unresponsiveness. now I am stuck - don't know how to transfer files from pixel 2 phone to iMac. been trying the bluetooth suggestion I found online but that's not working ... tried the image capture option but that's not seeing my photos - it sees the phone but has 0kb showing for every program on it.

so frustrating ... any ideas please ????

There are actually two different problems causing the same result, which is why this is being a bear.

Apple is now strictly enforcing low power "Smart" Bluetooth mode. Older non-Smart Bluetooth devices don't work with this new strict implementation. Logitech now supports this mode, it says so on their web site, and my new MX Master 2S mouse works great!

Why is the fie transfer app causing problems? Your Android phone isn't low power "Smart" Bluetooth either. Having the app loaded on your Mac causes the Mac to query your phone. Your phone wakes up and jams your mouse and keyboard.

Two problems, but it's really the same.
