Can't adopt iWork on new Mac. What?

Hi all,

Recently got one of the 2018 MBAirs running Mojave. It gave me a notice that there are updates available for the iWork suite apps along with iMovie & GarageBand (yay!) but won't let me actually update them unless I "adopt" them to my Apple ID, (boo!) and gives me a most generic answer as to why I can't ("Your request is unable to be processed. Please try again later"). Does this seemingly generic answer mean something? Am I missing something obvious?

In case anyone runs into this error, called support, and the answer turned out to be "Delete the programs from /Applications and re-install them from the App Store." It appears to have worked.

Contact Apple Support and tell them this is a new computer. Ask for a redemption code for the applications so you can go to the App Store and enter the code at the Redeem space to associate the applications with your Apple ID.
