error while installing

I purchased a G-4 from an e-bay customer. When I recieved this I noticed it had 10.4.8 installed on it. The apple spec says 10.4.7 is max operation sys. I decided to purchase new OS x from Apple, 10.4.6 and install it. When tryinig to install I recieved "errors installing the software" I did a erase and install, no sys to back up to. Learned lesson here. However I keep getting the same error message? This a power mac 3.1 G-4 . Any help apperciated, this is my first mack in about 15 years, so I am back to a new learning curve, But glad to be back.

OK, got new DVD from apple, different ram, and different DVD Drive, and had same problem. RE-set pram and nv-ram, same problem, disconnected additional drive, same problem, unhooked everything back up, reset pram, nv-ram, permissions, ect, chose easy install, and it installed everything fine? I have notice one of the 256 ram's do not show up, I might change this out.. Thanks for all the help, I am now up and running great. Thanks
