refurbished ipods ...

my brother is looking at purchasing a new ipod ... what if he went the refurbished route? do they appear to be new? should they run like new? do they have a warranty? has anyone bought a reburbished product and had a problem with it (or a success for that matter)?

iMac G5 - PowerMac12,1, Mac OS X (10.4.7), 1.9 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 250 GB HD

it's past warranty. and its the 4th gen ipod photo. theyre being lame about it.

I also ordered a refurbished iPod that arrived DOA. I then purchased an 80GB iPod video that has been flaky since day 1. I am not certain that I am particularly confident about Apple's quality control these days.
