Help installing Chinese fonts -- Font book says 'serious problems with font

I was trying to install two fonts I found here:

http://www.ibiblio.org/chinesehistory/contents/08fea/c02.html#Fonts

Specifically, I wanted HDZB_25.TTF and HYCuZhuanF.TTF although many of the other fonts on the page looked interesting as well.

When I download and expand the ZIPs I see the files are TTF files (as listed above). However, when I install them using Font Book I get the error message "Serious problems found with this font", and it won't let me install it. (I tried over-riding the advice, but still no luck).

I think these fonts were originally for the PC. Do I have to get a converter utility? Is this something to do with BigFive font encoding or something else like that? I'm stumped.Any help gratefully received 🙂

In general there is no reason to make any use of Fontbook for such stuff. Just put the fonts manually in Home/Library/Fonts.

PC ttf fonts can normally be used in OS X without problems.

OS X normally uses Unicode fonts, and I think these are for the legacy Big5 and GB encodings. I don't know to what extent they will be usable in any particular app in practice.
