Macbook ejects cds and dvds without reading them. Help please as new to Mac

I think this will be an easy one for someone to solve.

I am new to Macs and have proberbly done this my self, but all was fine with my new Macbook until yesterday when it started to eject all disks withour reading them. I takes them in as normal and I can hear them spin for a second or two then they eject. No icon appears on screen. Why?

Between working fine and not working I played about with i-photo, trying some of the key commands etc. It was during that time it all went wrong. Something i did?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Oh my, that same thing happened to me today. I bought three new cd's and two would load and rip, while the third would not. After resetting my PRAM/PMU parameters as suggested, restarting, and trying everything besides standing on my head, this disk would not load. It would rev up about three times, then just spit right out! Maybe my compu has something against dredg. =)

When I bought my Macbook in August, this happened back then as well. After calling apple, they instructed me to "make sure all my updates are installed." After that, I thought it was just because it was an older cd. But doing it with a brand new cd is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, why did I shell out almost $2k for a laptop that doesn't work?? It's really annoying.

I have the same problem and it happened today. while reading this thread, I saw this writing on the top of this page, saying; " This question is answered. "Helpful" answers available: 2. "Solved" answers available: 1." but I couldn't find those answers and solutions.

why would a cd-rom dies suddenly ? I have no idea.

This is very dissapointing.

because I know that I'll have to wait months and months to get my macbook back from service, just for a cd-rom change.

as I said... This is totally a disaster.

Boa tarde Bastos !!!

Troca, conserto ??

Agradeço desde já qualquer informação.

Same Problem. Heres my story.

I just got the new 2.16 Macbook (white) a few days ago at Frys in Houston. Everything was going ok until I started to load m-audio protools from the cd, it repeatedly ejected the cd,so I tried loading some of my other software from cds and they seemed to work fine, then I tried to load protools again and after a few trys the cd drive worked. Day before yesterday I tried to watch the new movie Apocalypto and here we go again, it keeps ejecting the dvd.It will play some of my other dvds but not all of them, and yes they are super clean with no scratches. Here comes the crazy part, as soon as I put the dvd that wont work in the drive if I pickup the Macbook and shake it for a few seconds (not to aggressively) the dvd starts playing and it plays great the whole length of the movie. When I eject the dvd and try and play it again it wont accept it, it just keeps ejecting it. I returned it to Frys and got a whole new Macbook thinking I had a bad drive in the first one. The second Macbook has the same problem,so I returned it last night. I took the Apocalypto DVD with me and tried it on all of the Macbooks and Macbook Pros that were on display. They had a new 2.16 Macbook (white) just like the two I had just bought and it would not accept the dvd either. They also had the 2.0 Macbook on display and again It refused to load the dvd (keeps ejecting). I even tried the 17" Macbook Pro and the 15" Macbook Pro. The 17" wouldn't work either but the 15" worked great every time I put the dvd in. The drive that was in the 17" was the UJ-85J. The drive that was in the 15" was the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA 4080MA. The drive that was in the two Macbooks that I had bought and in 2.16 that was on display at Frys was the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E. The drive that was in the 2.0 Macbook on display was the UJ-857D. Has anyone had this kind of problem lately. This is so disappointing, other than the drive acting up everything else was working great. My Quad G5 plays all my dvds great. Including the new Apocalypto movie.
Any Idea Guys

Thanks

I have the same problem.
My Macbook (bought Sep06) cannot read the most cds or dvds.
The drive tries to read the cd 3 times, then the computer ejects the cd.

One CD is working. I tried 20 CDs. 😟

I will contact Apple Germany next day. I had many computers and laptops before I bought my Macbook. The Macbook is the first computer, which makes problems 😟

I took my MacBook to service, and it took just 1 day for them to fix this.

Before taking my macbook to service, an apple shop called the service and asked if the have the powerdrive. They did have it so it took just one day get my macbook fixed.

I suggest you do the same too. you'd probably end up getting your computer faster.

I have the same problem--some DVDs will work, but no CD will work unless its a burned copy of the original. Now I'm trying a game that I previously used, but it is being ejected. I've only started having these problems two weeks ago, and I've had the laptop for almost a year.
That probably means that I'd better hurry up and make it to the Apple store--my Apple products have a funny habit of self-destructing the moment my warranty is up...

I am having the same problem, i bought my mac just under a year ago, am thankfully covered for3 years.

Its suddenly stopped reading any discs, so i took it to a store yesterday, i will update on what is found wrong with it, hopefully they will be honest as they are an approved apple retailer rather than just an apple store.

I have also had the discoloration problem on my palm rests but thats a different issue. Apart from that, i love it and wud never switch bk to a windows which i believe are crap!
