Macbook ejects cds and dvds without reading them. Help please as new to Mac

I think this will be an easy one for someone to solve.

I am new to Macs and have proberbly done this my self, but all was fine with my new Macbook until yesterday when it started to eject all disks withour reading them. I takes them in as normal and I can hear them spin for a second or two then they eject. No icon appears on screen. Why?

Between working fine and not working I played about with i-photo, trying some of the key commands etc. It was during that time it all went wrong. Something i did?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well, I also have the same issue, exactly similar to most of you.

Not reading some new discs
Ejecting discs without reading
Reading discs without enabling to read files on the discs

As far as I am concerned I have looked all over the forum for months and haven't found any answer to this problem. Waiting for mac to do an update or something but who knows...

For info I have a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D

Good luck

I took my Macbook up to the local Apple store and they had the part and replaced it in an hour. I guess it depends on the Apple store--they were really nice! Make sure you bring a CD and DVD in to test the optical drive. I'm pretty sure that that's the only option--no easy fixes for me. Good thing I have Apple Care because my warranty expired four days ago!
