Establishing an Airport Network using SBC DSL -- 2Wire 1701HG Gateway Modem

I have been using the SBC-Yahoo DSL for about two years with their SBC 2Wire Gateway modem hard wired to my iMac. All has worked just fine. We recently purchased a Macbook and want to enable it to also access the internet and have file sharing with the iMac. So I unplugged the 2Wire cable from my iMac and plugged it into the Airport Extreme hub and have been receiving nothing but error messages no matter waht I try. The set up assistant gave up! I looked through the discussions and did not see anything on point for this issue. Can anyone help. I am new to wireless stuff, so just may not understand all the lingo, etc.

When you connected the 2Wire Gateway to the AirPort Express Base Station (AEBS), you effectively, have two routers in your network configuration. For this to work you just need to set up the AEBS as a "bridge."

To set up the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as a bridge, temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (found in /Applications/Utilities), make these settings:

Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
- Apply the new settings.

Also, don't forget to do a complete power recycle of your network components any time you change your network configuration.

Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Internet Router, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Power-on the computer(s)
