Itunes Store Problem

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

My internet is running and every other program that uses internet works fine.

I ran the diagnostic and this is what it displays:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 8250
iTunes 7.1.0.59

Current user is an administrator.

The only anti-virus i run is AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 Free Ed. and I closed it out in order to see if that was the problem, and it wasn't. I was fine before I upgraded to the newest iTunes, and when I try to connect to the store to download a song, it gives me this error message every time. I have cleared the DNS cache and this does not work.

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

This is so frustrating! Apple is losing money with
every hour that goes by. Is there a link on
Apple.com to get the prior version of the iTunes? I
don't want to risk using a site like www.oldapps.com.

P.S. My problem with the Music Store seems to be limited to previewing songs. I just tried previewing a music video and I got both the picture and the sound! Go figure.

I have the same problem here as everyone else. And have tried every configuration and adjustment possible. I even contacted my internet provider's Network Technician and we tried many things to see if it could be a network connection problem and it wasn't. His conclusion was that this is an Apple problem that they have to fix this on their end.

I tried this, but it didn't work either...my songs are still waiting to be downloaded...it's been 3 weeks and 6 songs...itunes took the money and didn't give me the songs...any other helpful solutions would be greatly appreciated. I have McAfee not Norton, so I did my best at adding those sites to my accepted list, but still getting the network connection error message and I've done everything that everyone here has suggested...I'm at a loss right now, and getting a lot frustrated! Please help...I just want my music!

There are several threads reporting these kinds of problems. They all get the same suggestions: disabling firewalls, anti-virus, turning off proxy servers, flushing DNS cache. Seems to work for some but not all. I've tried booting in safe mode, reinstalling, checking for bad registry entries, all to no avail.

I've been getting the connection timed-out error for several weeks now. After upgrading to iTunes 7.1 I can no longer reach my remote speakers on the airport network. Seems like network problems are getting worse.

The latest: I just checked the diagnostics and am now getting the message: the date and time are not set correctly on this computer. Secure connections to the iTunes store may fail.

Had the same problem of all of sudden couldn't get into Itunes Store, today. I read some of the comments associated with your report and tried the following solution: I went into my Norton Internet Security, Personal Firewall and changed the setting from "automatic" to "Open to All".

I went into the iTunes application and had no problem accessing the iTunes store.

I just got a notice that an iTunes 7.1.1 is available, I wonder if it addresses this problem?
