Just downloaded and installed the new updates for Airport Extreme and now it won't accept my network password? I changed it on my router and still it won't accept it when I know it is correct?
Was there a problem with the update?
Macbook Pro 15" - 2.13Ghz - 2MB RAM,
Mac OS X (10.4.8)
I'd love to hear if you found - as I think I do - that Linksys WPA Pre shared Key is incompatible with the security modes available in Airport Extreme on MacBook and Powerbook.
I have spent many unsuccesful hours trying to configure wireless security on a Linksys WRT54G with my 2 Mac laptops. It works perfectly with an IBM Thinkpad, but nothing I can do will make it work with the Macs.
Am I missing something obvious ???
Here the same problem with a Macbook and a Mac mini intel.
After the update a connection with my router with WPA PSK is not possible.
I have a DLink 624 Router. The same PSK Key works on a Siemens router. So maybe it is the combination of the update and the Dlink firmware.
What router do you use ?
Same problem here ... I'm using a Macbook with a Dlink DI-624, and since yesterday I just get the message "there was an error joining the airport network ...". I've tried many of the suggestions from macfixit.com, to no avail. I could turn off WPA but I obviously don't want to.
I have the exact same problem with the new airport extreme update. I also have D-link DI-624. Never have a problem before the update tonight. I have to set it back down to WEP now in-order to connect. Sigh.... Apple MUST fix this problem soon.
The update also didn't set well with my DI-624 Rev C running firmware 2.50. I have been using older firmware because it had been more stable with the AirPort card. When I had troble joining the network after the latest AirPort update, I tried upgrading the D-Link firmware to the current version (2.76).
I still was having trouble connecting using both WPA and WPA2 modes. Right now, I am reluctantly using unsecure mode with SSID broadcast off and MAC filtering.
I wonder if it's time to dump the D-Link router...
Mine is also Rev. C, with firmware 2.76. The DI-624 has indeed a very bad reputation, but I do have three other machines on the network (XP, Linux, Pocket PC), which continue to work just fine.
Unless Apple says that they're following the WPA standard more closely or something like that (I heard there were security issues recently with Airport and the Macbook), I'd say it's a bug on Apple's side, not D-Link's.
It's interesting here but unless I have missed something all of the problems below are related to something other than an Airport Extreme wireless router. Have I missed something. My AEBS "802.11n" hasn't had a problem with the new update.
Same thing has happened to me.
I'm using a Belkin 54G and yesterday had no trouble accessing the internet using the wireless connection of my new MacBook Pro.
Today, however, I can get online using my old G4 computer with Ethernet.
My daughter can get on wirelessly using her Mac Mini (just over a year old). I don't think she has installed the update yet. Maybe she'd better not.
I can even get onto next door's network on the laptop - but obviously I'm not going to stay around there!
But I can't get onto the internet by either AirPort or Ethernet from my laptop, and I have been assigned one of the problem indicating IP addresses: 169.254.xxx.xxxl
Nobody else has reported this happening with a Belkin Router, I notice.
Add me to the long list of those who lost ability to connect through the DL 624 router after installing the update; I repeatedly get the message, "There was an error joining the AirPort network...." My signal strength appears to jump from full to empty as it attempts to connect, and then the message... I'd rather not have to buy a new router, but connection from my home office is essential!
After an hour or two of fiddling with my DI-624 (Rev C, firmware 2.76), I found the AirPort Extreme card in my MacBook will successfully connect using the lower WEP encryption, but not with WPA or WPA2.
It has been a pain reconfiguring all my wireless devices to use a different and weaker encryption standard, but it seems it was the only way to get the AirPort card and the DI-624 to play together since the 002 AirPort Extreme update this week.
I thought the reason there is a protocol (such as 802.11a/g) is so that devices from different manufacturers can work together harmoniously!
