Imac Display yellow line

I have a Imac G5 1.9 17' with a yellow vertical line 1px wide about two inches of the right side. My mac is 1 year 3 days old with no extended coverage 😟

I bough this mac in the US and take it back to my home country in Argentina where i actually live. This line appeared a coule of days ago.

Now, i have read this is a know problem by many users, i need to know if this trouble can get WORSE, and also if this is a manufacters defect and apple does something about it or if im alone at this (as i think i am).

If this yellow line on screen got worse for anyone let me know becouse i might want to sell this mac before that happens, or some advice on what to do that doesnt involve calling the US i would be apreciated.

Thanks

Imac G5 1.9 17''

My iMac is purchased in Singapore. Yah i had the same prob as u guys. My screen had 2 vertical lines. The first one which appear was a yellowish green thin line and the other was a much thicker blue line just beside the first one.

I hope that APPLE will recall this batch of machines back since there's so many users having this problem! I think there must be some manufacturer's fault somewhere, somehow.. sigh..

But does anyone tried to get another LCD monitor to connect to the imac? Coz repairing the screen will cost a bomb! Getting a brand new LCD monitor will be cheaper but not sure whether it works. Had anyone tried this method before? HELP!!!!

done a bit of homework on this and have some thoughts
Rod, Australia has a few too.
Baby Boomer, in Australia law mentions the reasonable expectations of the consumer and pixels crapping out within a week of the 1 year should not really be acceptable. Please don't go on with the 'own fault; could have got applecare' theme. I don't imagine Apple have just accepted that they were unlucky with a component supplier or assembly line and put it down to experience - they surely got active and protested this in their own way.
I got lucky with a service department and have a new logic board and screen despite being outside the time and numbers - so it can happen if you just get the right people at the right time.

Yes. In your case, at least, yours also fits the "long distance travelled" and "tropical climate" picture. I guess they have ALL travelled a long distance at one time or another from the original factories, but I wonder whether shipping conditions may vary ( I guess yours at least spent a long time bumping up the Bruce Highway on the way to the shop! )

Glad they did right by you. I must get the name of that helpful dealer if I find myself heading further north than usual (I spend a lot of time in Rockhampton and Townsville for work reasons, but Cairns is beyond my regular range)!

Cheers

Rod

I' m having exactly the same problem, adn can't hide my disappointment. I bought a iMac G3 back in 2000 and have always been very pleased with it, so I thought it obvious to buy another iMac when it was time to replace it. Even if they cost more than a standard PC I thought the QUALITY would be superior. I've had the iMac G5 since Nov05 and in Jan07 (14months after purchasing-and 2 months after the warranty expired) it I got a thin purple vertical line about 1cm to the left of the centre of the screen. Then about 2 months later I got a thin blue line right down the centre of the screen and TODAY I've got another purple vertical line about a thrid of the way across from the right of the screen. So now I'm up to 3 vertical lines and from what I can read from this thread I'm pretty sure I'm going to get more.
So as you can tell I'm pretty angry.
I don't fall in to the Apple exchange or extension programme as my serial number starts W8542... nor do I seem to be experiencing any of the probelms they link,....but it is strange that there are so many case I think it Apple should be seriously taking this into consideration. I noticed someone mentioned that there is a high incidence of cases coming fromt he southern hemisphere, as I too bought mine in Australia and have since moved (july06) to Italy. Any case it would be nice to know that Apple are considering this as it is pretty poor that we should have to endure this.

Best of ...
regards
Manuel

Hey i also live in Argentina and have exactly the same problem you have.
I have two pink vertical lines and a yellow one all across the height of my screen accomodated to the right of my screen which appeared in just a couple days. It's also notorious to mention that these lined appered just 4 months after my one year warranty had finished.
I also have had a faulty Superdrive which i replaced

I have tried in many Apple official service providers here and they want to charge 600 u$s dollars plus a 200 pesos (aprox. 66 u$s) for the replacement.
That's just not right after paying 1800 u$s for a computer with a faulty lcd.

It's Apple's obbligation to compensate for the damages caused.

Moreover Apple should be specially sympathetic for those that against all odds buy their computer in underdeveloped countries and suffer prices increases and bad technical support.

I've been having this problem since the last 3 days...

Model: 17" (iSight)
Date purchased: 7 October 2005 (no Apple Care)
Serial No: W8543xxxxxx
Description: one red vertical line located 1/3 of screen.

I do not intend to pay 700 € for a new screen. l'll put the IMac in a cupboard and use my upgraded G4 Cube instead.

Today I got a third line in my imac's screen. This has been going on for the last month and my iMac warranty expired just over 6 months ago. I understand there are a lot of people with the same problem in different countries. I haven't heard a word from apple yet. Seems to be a BIG problem, specially for imacs isight, acording to all the information I have read through different web pages and this one. Anyone have heard of good news? I understand that the part to be replaced will cost almost as buying a new computer!!!

This is my 3rd Mac since '95 and overall they have been problem free until... yesterday. What's up Apple? a thin yellow line on the right side of the screen... and "NO" accountability from the manufacturer? I have used Apple Discussions on numerous occasions, but I find Apple's indifference to this problem reprehensible! There is a MAJOR defect in your product, please address this issue. I find it very difficult to promote any of your products to the clients I serve without something being done about this.

Faithful Apple Users deserve better care.
