Side by Side: Apple Aperture and Adobe Lightroom in S.F.

Below is info on a first ever (?) head to head comparison of Aperture vs Lightroom presented by Schorr & Hogarty. Should be a great meeting. If you are in Nor-Cal, check it out;

i have been speaking both since a young age ... my older sister was born in Landstuhl, while my dad was at Kaiserslautern ... i was "conceived" when my parents were in Paris ...

if i want to sound mean and nasty, i speak german (even if saying nice things 😀 - and speak french when i want to sound all sweet and romantic - even when swearing) ... however, everytime i go to france, i tell people i am canadian and they are nicer to me than if i tell them i am american ...

too bad we can't all get together in die Schweiz, Suisse, and have a drink ...

Staphane - i know i have given you crap that is probably not too deserved and for that i apologize ... it is that sometimes when i am cranky and cantankerous i tend to not think ... just react ...

this morning i captured a fabulous sunrise that put me into a good mood, and i have thoroughly enjoyed y'alls debate ...

i do tend to side with karl about features v cameras, but the point about dcraw really is intriguing ...

and don't even get me started on the psuedo-standard DNG (this whole RAW, DNG mess, i lay blame on camera manufacturers, NOT software vendors - if they all would adopt a standard image capture format this whole mess would be gone)

Jeff,

It was a pleasure to meet you last night at the event and see a face on the other side of this forum. We are fortunate to have Apple and Adobe in our backyard and be able to meet the team behind the great products!

Joe mentioned in his presentation that it is a great time to be a photographer and have the heavy hitters in the computer/software industry compete for the professional photographer's attention. This freemarket competion is great for the user.

Thank you for the accurate report from last night and it was very informative to meet Joe and to ask several questions of him. He is very knowledgeable and committed to Aperture's success.

Apple's Senior Director of Professional Applications, (Joe's boss) was there and I had a good conversation with him. These guys are very sharp and dedicated to Aperture. It is easy to criticize and to suggest improvements, however I thanked him for Aperture and encouraged him to continue development of it as they have done with Final Cut Pro, etc.

I have used Aperture daily since V1.0 (November 2005) and find it indispensable to my professional workflow.

Matt
