In the list of applications, there are some that can
open a photoshop file (Imageready, Illustrator, etc.)
and those that can't (Garageband, Address Book, etc)
are faded in color and you can't choose them.
That might happen if you have "Recommended Applications" enabled in your finder window rather than "All Applications." Toward the top of a Choose Other Application window, look for the
Enable drop-down menu and select "All Applications." All applications on the list should then become available. Of course, there's no guarantee a given application would be able to open a particular file; you'll get an alert if it can't. But at least it's become active for you to choose from so you can try.
Be that as it may, you shouldn't need to perform a Get Info on Firefox to select it as your default web browser in Safari Preferences. So that's a mystery. Are there other browsers on the list from which you
can choose? Is Firefox installed in your Applications folder? Need a bit more information.
