I have just connected an XDCam deck (PDW-F30) to my Mac, imported the Sony Plug-In, and even though I see the XDCam query in the 'Import' menu, the deck does not show up on my desk top, or as being available for import. I first connected it to the looped fire wire on my LaCie drive, then to the one on my monitor, then disconnected my Aja box and went right into the computer and still nothing shows up. I can't seem to find a setting on the deck to help me, but I do want to confirm if I should be in remote, local, or network for the switch on the front of the deck. None of those have seemed to help my Mac see the deck but ...
This is supposed to be easy, right?
What am I missing?
G5 2x2.66ghz Dual Core Xeon,
Mac OS X (10.4.8),
Using SD files
Not intimately familiar with format or deck, but I wouldn't expect it to have any interface to the desktop - other than being visible in System Profiler.
What you want is for Final Cut to see it, right? Does it show up there?
I think Alex (17 year old son of my colleague) just solved my problem. I had seen a post about the FAM menu but that was for exporting, but Alex found that in the enhanced menu is where the FAM selection comes up, and it worked for importing.
Thats correct. The remote setting on the front of the deck is not important. You need to change the deck to FAM (File Access Mode). When switched to FAM then the XDCAM disc will mount on the desktop as a removable drive.
