IPod nano - cannot restore

Hi. I am having thisg problem for the first time in last one year. Suddenly my ipod screen shows "Use itunes to restore" in several languages.
But I am unable to restore it or to do anything with it. My computer does not recognise the ipod.
Please help. It has not even been frozen for one day and I am already missing it badly 😟

As for getting your iPod recognized by iTunes... have you tried these steps?

The Five R's

If the five r's don't help, check out this article:

iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod

If "My Computer" isn't recognizing your iPod as well as iTunes, see this:

iPod doesn’t show up in My Computer or in iTunes

Also you can try putting your iPod into disk mode (if it is even able to), then connect it to your computer and try a restore.

I thought I would save a few bucks and bought a refurbished Nano from Apple. I've only used it once, then went to update it with Itunes 7.1.1 only to be unable to update it and have the error message "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I think I've tried everything. Any suggestions before I chuck this thing out the window?

To format an iPod in Windows:

1 - Open "My Computer" from the Start menu, or from your desktop.

2 - Right-click on your iPod, and click on "Format".

3 - Select "FAT32" to be the format type.

4 - Make sure that "Quick Format" is not selected, then click "OK" to begin the formatting process.

After you've finished formatting your iPod, be sure to restore it in iTunes afterward, to reload the firmware onto your iPod again.

Dead Nano after Upgrade to iTunes 7.1.1.5.

Immediately after upgrading to iTunes 7.1.1.5. and updating, charging, and syncing my iPod it does not function properly.
Symptoms:
_The click wheel does not seem to work any more. The hold switch is set correctly to the left position.
_No response to a reset by holding menu / select buttons for 10 secs.
_When iPod is plugged into my CPU it seems to act normally - the screen lights up briefly and displays the message "do not connect" as iTunes starts and syncs all checked songs like normal.
_After the sync the iPod display a full battery icon.
_When the iPod is unplugged from the CPU the iPod display is lit briefly, displays the menu where the user selects which language to use, and after about 15 secs the screen goes blank after about 2 secs.
_The iPod does not respond to the click wheel when in Itunes (which may be normal) or when disconnected (even after switching the hold switch back and forth several times).
_The iPod shows up in iTunes and in My Computer.
_Songs on iPod play OK when selected directly from My Computer.

I tried resetting and upgrading the iPod several times from Itunes and also restoring Itunes 5 but no luck.

This iPod one year old, like new, and functioned perfectly up until the upgrade but now useless after software upgrade.

Help!
