Disabling the metronome

I just switched to osx and I'm used to using Adobe Audition. I'm trying to figure out with logic express how I disable the metronome? Also.. Is there a way to make the recording not go backwards so far? For example if I click the left arrow it goes almost behind where I cant see it. Why does it do that and is there a way to change that?

Macbook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.4.9)

in the transport there is a button (is should be blue if your hearing the met). click and hold the button; a window will appear with 2 options recording and metronome. click the met option and another box will appear. select the option you want.
for the second part of your question you can either turn off the snap to line or set the resolution of the snap to a finer resolution. or you can zoom in closer (enlarge the screen shot) and click to the closest time line.
