Corrupt theme/kenBurn preview and final result

Hello,

since last update of OS (10.4.9) and QuickTime 7.1.5 I have big problem with themes and kenBurn effects: the preview looks corrupt and also the final rendering.

Please help. I have to finish my movie soon.

Well I have tried to start a new project on my main disk, no music, 1 photo. When I update using Ken Burns photo looks corrupt, I can uncheck ken burns, update and photo looks fine again. I repaired permissions. I export to a quicktime file it still looks corrupt when playing in quicktime. I tried exporting the photo from iphoto to jpeg then drag into imovie....same issue.

I have imovie 6.0.3. I am running out of ideas aside from buying a new mac

Ok, just before I was about to throw the emac out the window, I exported a photo from iphoto as a tiff. Drag that into imovie and bam ken burns works most of the time like that. I can even update it and change the settings after input. It is a pain in the A@# to do it this way but it seems to work for me so far. It doesn't work every single time, looks like maybe 85% or so and if it gets corrupted I clear it and try again then it seems to work. Something strange is going on.... very un-mac like.

I did try exporting as a jpeg see previous post above. Jpeg never works. I am not sure if I tried to limit the size to 640x480. Maybe I will try that later tonight. Don't know why there would be a problem with my photos. In previous versions of imovie I have never had any problems and I have been using the same digital camera. Seems like I am not the only one with these issues. It does look like there is some sort of correlation with the photos and the new imovie, just not sure what that would be.

We've seen a few instances where iMovie didn't like certain photos. Entire collections shot from the same camera. I don't think anyone knows exactly why. But exporting from iPhoto would fix the problem, whatever it was.

I suppose it's even possible it had something to do with the software that imported them to the Mac, perhaps some old version of iPhoto?

You've reinstalled just about everything you can, Denis, so I don't know what I can suggest.

It's certainly possible, I suppose, that something bad happened with the installation of QuickTIme 7.1.5 and Mac OS 10.4.9. Yet we're not seeing reports of problems like that from other users, and there must be tons of people with your Mac.

If you did not use the Combo updater to install 10,4,9, but used the incremental updater instead, you might try again with the Combo. It reportedly does a "purer" update. Then follow-up with a repeat update to QT 7.1.5.

Otherwise, you might have to go with a complete system re-install.

Have you tried creating a new user account? It would let you see if things work okay as that user. That would suggest a software problem when you are the user.

Hi.
Thx for answers to everyone.

I apply only the combo updates to my Mac OS X 10.4.
QT 1.7.5 was also re-installed before.

I always use 2nd non-admin account. I've read in other discussions to try with another accound. Also I did it with the administator account: still same problem :(((.

I don't want to re-install the OS because this was one of the reasons for the switch from Windows PC to a Mac.
I have feeling about "re-install of OS and all apps and the problem is still there" because I have already a lot of such experiences.

But... we will see. Maybe... 🙂

I installed the fresh OS 10.4 on internal MacMini drive, installed iLife '06, applied all OS and iLife updates, repaired access rights, created new project, add photos from iPhoto => same problem!!!

Found a "workround": if your play with the start/end switch in the Kenburn control, the currupt preview will be ok again after some tries. In such case the final rendering should be ok too.

Apple, please solve the bugs first, then build-in the new features!!!
