MOTU vs. RME

I know this is no question for a Logic forum, but I'm looking for some objective opinions.

I thinking about selling my MOTU 828 mkII and buying a used (but only a few months-from a friend of mine) RME Fireface800. It will cost me 300 € more then I will get for my MOTU.
The main reason for me are two more mic pres.
Are the converters of the RME much better then the MOTUs?

What's your opinion on these two interfaces?

I'm happy about any reply.

i would have to say that RME support at Synthax has to be the best support I have dealt with.

Always a no hassle conversation.

I will never own another interface that doesn't come from RME, because of the sound and quality, and for there tech support. Apple could learn a few things from them.

If you dealt with Emagic tech support back in the day, then you know what i am talking about. RME is the same way. Send an email or call them up. You talk to someone who knows the product, and wants you to understand how the product works.

RME use the same ADK A/D converters as the MOTU.

The MOTU stuff uses ADK for the A/D as well as the
D/A and the MOTU always spec better than the RME
stuff.

As you can see, there is an irrational anti-MOTU bias
on the net.

Use your ears.

I think the anti-MOTU movement was a result of their
earlier interfaces, such as the 2408, and 2408 Mk 2.
While these interfaces were primarily intended for 24
digital I/O's, they included 8 analog I/O's, that
were, well, in a word... crap. I know, I had 2 of
theses things.

It was my understanding that around the time of the
second MOTU FW interface (828 Mk2... or something
like that), improvements were made to the converters.
Can anyone verify that?

All that to say, the FW800 sounds remarkably good.

hi Jim,
I think you responded to the wrong poster....I did not write that stuff at all.

I wrote:

"Santo y Blue demon VS dracula y el Hombre Lobo!!!!!"

They don't use preamps...

Plus, here's my 2 cents on the whole "this VS that":

Forget the gear for a minute.

Just go and make music.GOOD music.EXCELLENT music.

That is what the world needs now... IMO.

I work for a radio music service, and we here see every week about 750 song submissions...guess what, they all sound-alike.I end up finding one gem in about every 3 months or so.That would be 1 song for every 9000 submissions.

It is SO sad.My ears hurt at the end of the day, from listening to so much crapola.

The girls all sound like any of 3 famous singers:Madonna,Xtina Aguilera,or Britney. And this is even other races too...you should hear a Japanese version of Britney...truly gut-wrenching,in the worst way.

The guys all sound like Pearl Jam,Metallica or Nirvana. But a lot worse.

The HORROR,The HORROR,The HORROR!!!!!

MOTU vs. RME
