Problems getting Apple TV to "Authorize Apple TV" through iTunes

I have 2 mac's at home, a macbook pro and a powermac g5.

The macbook pro connects to the apple tv and life is great, you can stream music and (slowly) sync files.

My macbook pro can connect wirelessly, but all connections were hard-wired (including Apple TV).

When I connect via the powermac, in itunes it never tries to "Authorize Apple TV" in the Itunes status, consequently it never sync's up and never allows me to stream.

Unfortunately I have >2TB of data on my powermac I'd like to stream and practically none on the macbook pro.

Both mac's are running 10.4.9 and itunes 7.1.1. Any ideas? I've de-auth'd and re-auth'd the powermac, but still doesn't work. Various resets and restarts still produce the same problem.

This baby is going back if it can't work with a powermac. Help!

PowerMac G5 Dual 2GHz/2.5GB and MacBook Pro 2.0GHz/2GB/200GB-4200, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

mine is doing the same thing except that it also won't play any i tunes purchased material. Some unit eh!?! I think our problems are really the same in that A-TV is looking for "authorization" for the itunes protected songs. Mine play fine on the computer and my network works so I think we have a software bug they Apple isn't owning up to yet.

I'm with you to a degree, certainly appears like a bug of some sorts.

However, my macbook pro does have protected content and that works fine.

When I deauth'd and re-auth'd my systems, I'm using 3 out of 5 systems, so that shouldn't be an issue either.

I don't even see it trying to "auth my apple tv" when connected to the powermac, I don't even think it starts to try to sync anything. It does work properly on my macbook pro though.

Yes, the network does work - tv trailers work on the apple tv, it does sync/stream with my macbook pro and my powermac can talk to my macbook pro and the internet - there, all permutations covered off.

When I was syncing, I was only syncing to one mac at a time, and resetting to factory defaults between, so never had both set up at the same time.

Keep the ideas coming, maybe we'll find a break-through!

toonz, what do you mean by network segment. I know that I am connected but it "smells" like the problem relates to communication between Apple TV and I tunes store I guess. I know that I am connected to the Network, and that it is working because I can play the other songs. In the settings menu on the TV it shows that the network is the same one I think that I am running if that's what you're asking. I've been trying to figure out how to determine if in fact A-TV is connected to the internet and/or how to authorize it.

The messages I saw in Itunes on my macbook pro suggested that it was Itunes running on the macbook pro that was actually connecting via the internet to "authorize apple tv". This is exactly what DOESN'T happen when I connect via my Powermac. I still believe that is the root of my problem. Without that occurring I can't stream or sync.

But, it looks like it's itunes on your mac that needs the internet connection for authorization, not the apple tv itself.

unfortunately that's not what the span port said when I monitored the network traffic when it was working via my macbook pro, only the itunes/mac did the internet connection.

Why do you think otherwise? Where did you get that information? It doesn't appear to be accurate, but would be interested in your source.
