Problems getting Apple TV to "Authorize Apple TV" through iTunes

I have 2 mac's at home, a macbook pro and a powermac g5.

The macbook pro connects to the apple tv and life is great, you can stream music and (slowly) sync files.

My macbook pro can connect wirelessly, but all connections were hard-wired (including Apple TV).

When I connect via the powermac, in itunes it never tries to "Authorize Apple TV" in the Itunes status, consequently it never sync's up and never allows me to stream.

Unfortunately I have >2TB of data on my powermac I'd like to stream and practically none on the macbook pro.

Both mac's are running 10.4.9 and itunes 7.1.1. Any ideas? I've de-auth'd and re-auth'd the powermac, but still doesn't work. Various resets and restarts still produce the same problem.

This baby is going back if it can't work with a powermac. Help!

That seems pretty clear to me. Especially since there is no way to download iTunes Store content directly to Apple TV (without going through a computer first).

I'm Having the exact same problem. My iMac is authorized, My AppleTV syncs all of my non iTunes content fine and connects to the internet to show movie trailers so I know it is seeing the internet. But Every time I try to sync or watch my iTunes content I see "Apple TV could not contact iTunes store to authorize."

Argh!

I'm on a PC and have the same problem: "Not authorized" to play purchased content from iTunes. Curiously, it will sometimes give the same message when trying to view my photos. I re-try and then it works for the photos. I have tried the de-authorize then authorized trick to no success. When I set it up, ATV could not connect automatically to the internet, so I hit the manual TCP-IP button and it says it successfully connected to the internet, but I have no way of knowing if it is getting in touch with the authentication server at iTunes store. I suspect this is the problem, but dont know how to fix it. Help!

you still miss the point. I don't have a problem playing downloaded content. I have a problem having the initial authorization. That STILL doesn't talk from the apple tv to the internet, only via the itunes.

My span port shows that on the network packet dumps I looked at.

As I've resolved this, at least I won't have to explain this to you again.

This got fixed for me when I followed a separate thread.

I had to enable itunes and iphoto sharing, enable port 8770 on my firewall.

Tried again and it works, it also seems to sync pretty fast via my wired connections.

Much happier now. Closed!

I had the same problem. I solved it by (trial and error):
- adding the MAC address to the allowed devices on my router
- switching between wired, wireless, and then back again
- reauthorizing my computer via iTunes

Something in there finally worked...
