In my opinion Apple will not EOL (end of life) Panther 10.3.9 for quite awhile.

Note that Tiger has reached 10.4.9 and is still causing problems mainly with the Intel configuration. Bear in mind that the rushed release of Tiger 10.0.0 came with the Intel surprise just over the horizon.

Many professionals stayed with the very stable 10.3.9, while the innovative Tiger seemed to become a public beta during the Intel transition. However, it would appear that Leopard will incorporate the positive lessons learned from a shaky Tiger and become a star performer after a few version updates.

At that point, our reliable Panther 10.3.9 might attain legacy status ... still very usable .... but no longer on the software developers menu or Apple's.

"Problems" with Intel configurations are limited. Mine runs smooth as silk. Issues you may run into with software updates are usually the result of data corruption, directory issues, and overfull hard drives, and bad drivers, and unsupported hacks.
