HDMI not working

I plugged in the Apple TV to my Hitachi 42HDS69 Plasma HDMI port with the HDMI cable I bought from the apple store and I got nothing. It works fine with component video but I would like to use the HDMI. I have seen a similar report in the forum for a Sharp TV. Any suggestions appreciated.

RC-R is exactly right on this.

This is a HDMI source problem, in other words, the Apple TV is not 100% HDMI-HDCP compliant.

Apple fails on two of the outlined problems (listed under "Looking for Trouble",:

#2 We know that for some owners, unplugging and re-plugging the HDMI cable re-syncs and sometimes fixes the problem, albeit briefly.

#3 There's another thread I started where some Sony Bravia, Philips and LG HDTV's are exibiting flashing video. I've tried to convince Apple of this problem but they're currently in denial.

I first came across problems with HDMI-HDCP after purchasing an OPPO DV-981 HD upscaling DVD player. The initial batch had sporadic sync issues where the TV didn't always display the image correctly, which was identified by Oppo to be a re-sync problem and was corrected with a firmware update.

If for once Apple would read their own Discussion boards, we'd probably have a decent resolution to this issue.

The quoted article makes it clear that very few devices are 100% compliant.

It is more likely Apple is aware of the above & has attempted to make the Apple TV as compatible with as many other HDMI equipped devices as it can. That a firmware update to other devices solves the problem indicates that the Apple TV is not where the problem lies.

If your atv hdmi output is working, it takes priority over your component video output. atv will play out of both simultaneously. My atv hdmi output just quit working today. It was plugged in on my sharp aquos lc-32ds2u. The sharp hdmi inputs work, and hdmi cable works fine. the atv component video works well. I wonder if it's related to something i recorded on my scientific atlanta dvr hdtv cable box, that has some hd drm thing on it.

I wonder if AppleTV use HDCP protocol or not too...

I have connected it with an HDMI/DVI cable to an unfortunately 'already old' plasma Fujitsu 4242 that for sure don't support HDCP...

Result: black screen!

If I connect my PowerBook to the same plasma DVI port I can see my PowerBook's desktop image so my plasma is working correctly.

Is there anyone with more informations/solutions?

Many thanks and best regards...
