has anyone used appletv with a scaler and/or a HD projector (1080p)

any experiences?
There are reports that apple tv can output 720p but also 1080i.
Confirmations?

thanks

I use an Anthem Statement D2 with a Gennum VXP video processor.

The Apple TV native output resolution is 720P. It will also scale to 480P and 1080i internally.

The output is much better if you leave it at 720P and let an outboard video processor do any additional conversions.

Hi-def trailers downloaded at 720P/24 are excellent when the Apple TV outputs 720P and the Gennum converts to 1080i to a 55" Fujitsu plasma or to 1080P to a Sony VPL-VW100 projector with a 92" screen. Pretty much the same quality as regular hi-def TV.

Photos are outstanding.

Home videos from a Sony hi-def camcorder (1080i/30) also look fine, although iMovie outputs them at 960 x 540.

Standard-def pictures are OK, but not great.

I've really enjoyed it so far--looking forward to more 720P content...

Thanks Charles.
I ordered AppleTV. As soon as I receive it I will post back.

I have a DVDO VP50 scaler and a Mitsubishy 5000 with native resolution 1080p,

Theoretically I should use the native resolution and go with that into the scaler or directly to the projector that of course can also project 720p

I imagine i will have to do some testing with various settings

I'm feeding the HDMI out of the AppleTV into an ONKYO SR803 rcvr to which the HDMI output of the rcvr is sent directly to an OPTOMA HD72 projector. The projector has a Faruja scalar in it and works really well when receiving the 1080i signal from the AppleTV. It looks great on the 116" screen I painted on my wall. I've used 720P and 1080i and really don't see any difference in the picture quality. They both work very well.

The AppleTV is great!

Coming back after some tests with the new Apple TV I just received. I am feeding as said above the HDMI output to my scaler (DVDO 50vp) and then to Mitshubishi HD 5000 projector for 1080p

Apple tv output 720p or 1080i. Both look great for pictures and even for some postcasts in hd (washington post, new york times)

Tailers and other shows are of course low quality at the origin and remain so.
Hoping for real HD in the future.

Can only recommend Apple tv.
