Edited IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0

I support our clients with ARD and two of them now have the following problem:

Each has a router, with the appropriate ports forwarded. I have the appropriate user id's and passwords to log in. I have done so successfully to these machines in the past.

Now, when I go to edit the ip address for the router, I press done and it immediately changes to 0.0.0.0

One is running 10.3.9, the other is 10.4.x.

When on site for the client running 10.4.x, connected to his internal network, I could connect with ARD using the router IP address. But, back in my office, it reverts to 0.0.0.0.

Any ideas?

I think this is similar to an inconvenience I have with ARD-

I have ARD 3.1 on my work MBP, and my router is configured to forward the ports so I can connect to my iMac from work using my home cable modem IP address. When I am on my home network, that IP address reverts to 0.0.0.0, but by using the scanner, I can re-find the iMac in a few seconds. Then every morning when I go to work, the iMac's IP in ARD is back to 0.0.0.0, and I have to manually edit it to have the home IP address again. It's getting a little annoying but I can't figure out how to make the same computer have two entries.

My theory for the 0.0.0.0 reverting is whenever the Mac in question is stored with a non-routable (internal) IP address and the Mac you're on finds itself on an internal network with a different subnet, the stored IP address reverts to 0.0.0.0.

The behavior I observe is always consistent, so that's my best guess. *****, though.
