Palm Treo 650 doesn't sync with iCal and Address Book with OS 10.4.9

Last night (3/28/2007), I could sync my Sprint Treo 650 Calendar and Contacts with iCal and Address Book. Tonight I can't. Hot Sync looks like it works, but changes on the Treo don't appear on the Mac and vice versa. Syncing does work to the Palm Desktop, which I use for memos.

The iSync Palm conduit is enabled, but the sync doesn't result in synchornization of the data.

I installed OS 10.4.9 a few weeks ago, when it came out. The sync has worked since then, up until tonight.

Sprint customer service suggested reinstalling the Palm Desktop, so I got Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev. D off Palm's web site and installed it, but that didn't change anything.

Can anyone help?
Thanks, Kem

I came looking for an answer because I have the same problem. I tried different USB ports, I re-installed Missing Sync, and checked to make sure iSync permitted Palm syncing but still didn't work. Checked all conduits and everything I wanted checked was checked - ie the settings hadn't changed.

The message I'm getting on my Palm is "connection not made..." Meanwhile my Macbook Pro, actually shows the Missing Sync running, but it just keeps running -doesn't get past candy stripe start.(prior to reinstallingit was initiating at all) I tried doing a Bluetooth sync, it found my Palm, but when I put in the code, it said there was an error.(noteably this also happened when I tried to set it up with my Prius - so this part may not have to do with 10.4.9)

The last successful sync was 3/22/07, and I updated to 10.4.9 afterwards. Has anyone successfully synced their Treo 650 with Missing Sync after downloading 10.4.9?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Reinstalling the Palm Desktop was a really bad idea. Although you believe it changed nothing, it actually changed everything. And, it could not possibly have corrected the original issue, which almost certainly does not involve the HotSync Manager or Transport Monitor, and could not have involved the remained of the Palm package at all.

Palm device synchronization using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit will not work until you have address the issues which reinstalling it created, and the original issue which prevented the execution of a synchronization event.

To correct this, you should first remove your Palm device from iSync.

Then, apply this software package to update Mac OS X 10.4.9 for your PowerPC-based Macintosh:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateppc.html

You must use this package to perform the update, as neither the smaller delta updater of the Software Update mechanism will perform the necessary changes to your configuration.

Once you've done that, you should launch iSync 2.4 and use the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu to once again add your Treo to iSync. It's probably better to initiate this process via USB, though if you elect to use Bluetooth instead, be sure that you pair your smartphone to your computer prior to attempting to add it to iSync.

If you cannot add it as a device, stop and post the error messages you see rather than trying to address them. This process should be straightforward and simple but it often is not, and proceeding without understanding the impact of what you are doing may force you to start this procedure all over again.

You may have the same issue, but beyond a damaged or incomplete synchronization framework due to an incorrectly installed Mac OS X 10.4.9 update, your configuration is very different than that of the user who posted above.

Yours contains replacement Mark/Space components for the HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor. Whatever you do, do not reinstall the Palm Desktop.

You can follow the instructions above with regard to reapplying the appropriate Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo update. You didn't indicate which machine you were synchronizing with, so if it's one with an intel-processor, you must instead reapply this one:

What does the log generated by the Missing Sync say about these events? You access it by pressing the Sync History icon in the main window of the Missing Sync for Palm OS.

I'm a little troubled by your last comment, as you refer to standard Palm conduits like the Address conduit and Calendar conduit…

And, some of what you said indicates that you might also being trying to synchronize using iSync, which isn't possible if you have chosen to use the Missing Sync.

Which conduits do you now have active in the main window of the Missing Sync for Palm OS when you press the Conduits tab?

Whoa - slow down. You should not be installing or configuring iSync at all if you are using the Missing Sync for Palm OS. It replaces it entirely for the purposes of synchronizing a Palm device. Don't remove it or the Palm Desktop either - just leave them alone and reconfigure and use the Missing Sync.

And, you don't add a Palm device to iSync using the Add Device… option: it is added using the Enable Palm OS Syncing option, but don't do that! iSync will not operate once the HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor have been replaced with components from the Missing Sync.

Aside from downloading and installing the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo update, you should only be working with the Missing Sync for Palm OS, and not with iSync or the Palm Desktop.

Thanks for your help. The sync now works.

In addition to enabling the Palm device in iSync, I also had to go to HotSync Manager, open the Conduit Manger in the Hot Sync menu, open the iSync settings and enable the Palm device (again, from the Palm perspective). Only then did the Palm device appear in the iSync window.

Againk, thanks - Kem
