"authorize" an iPod?

Updating my iPod. Decided to use the "sync" feature for playlists for the first time.

However, the tunes on the iPod (when plugged into my iMac computer) are greyed out. Can't play them while iPod is hooked to computer. Used to be able to do that before.

I recall something about "authorize" ... but can't quite remember the process. Can't find anything in iTunes preferences or system preferences.

Or, is there some other button I should click so tune names on the iPod will turn black, and thus be usable?

Thanks in advance

Hi nemateoz!

Your iPod's songs are "greyed-out" because you are automatically syncing your iPod (that's just the way that option works).

If you'd like to have access to your iPod's songs, you could click on your iPod in the Source List of iTunes, and under the "Summary" tab, select the "Manually manage music" option.

Then, click on "Apply" to save your changes.

Now, you are manually managing your iPod in iTunes. Now, you can play songs from your iPod (by clicking on its "Music" section in iTunes).
