Can anyone provide me with some tips for configuring the Airport Extreme with relation to bittorrent? I'm after the correct port forwarding techniques.
In a nutshell, you need to perform, at least, two steps:
- Assign a static IP address to the device, that will be hosting Bittorrent.
- Set up Port Forwarding on the AirPort Extreme Base Station identifying the
ports required for Bittorrent communications.
Ok, can you be a little more specific? I know what the ports are (6881-6889), and the ip address. How do I enter that information in the configuration utility?
Using Airport Utility, select your AEBS by double clicking, then click on the Internet icon. If your AEBS is set up to Share a Public IP address, then there should be a tab labeled
NAT. Check
Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol, then
Configure Port Mappings. Click on
Port Mapping on the next panel, then
+ to enter the mappings.
As previous poster indicated, you should assign a static IP on your private LAN to the computer that is going to be doing all the Bit Torrent heavy lifting. There can only be one.
All else fails, consider reading the Apple manual:
Designing Airport Extreme 802.11n Networks.pdf downloadable from the Airport support pages.
