iMac connects to Comcast router- Internet works well.
Using SAME cable (removing endA from iMac and connecting the same endA to AirportExtreme), Airport Extreme does not connect to Internet. Doesn't matter if WAN or LAN port. Do I need different cable? iMac connects as wireless client to Airport extreme (but still no Internet through AirPort Extreme).
You may need to turn off the cable modem for a minute or so after disconnecting the iMac to clear out its MAC address association to the iMac. When you subsequently connect the Extreme's WAN port, the modem should then associate with the Extreme's WAN port's MAC address.
You should connect to the WAN port and it must be set up DHCP.
Simply plugging in an ethernet cable from your ISP's Modem (NOT A ROUTER)
into an Airport Extreme Base (Router) will not connect.
You need to reset the entire system.
Pull the Power Adapter from the ISP's Modem.
Pull the Power Adapter from the Airport Extreme Base.
Your Ethernet Cable must be connected before you unplug the Power Adapters.
You Must wait at least 5 minutes.
After your wait .
Plug in, in this order.
ISP's Modem now you must wait at least 1 minute.
Plug in the Airport Extreme Base Station, now you must wait 1 minute again.
After you get all that finished you shoud be able to connect. IF YOUR SETTINGS ARE CORRECT.

It worked in that I was able to get error light to go out. However, I was unable to get my iMac using the Intenet. Not sure if it's the same timeout function on the iMac. It is even more annoying because the Comcast modem has a built in battery for the VOIP service.
I am new to Mac. I just bought an iMac. On my Birthday, my wife bought me an Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station.
I previously had a Dell desktop that died. The dell had a dell router and I have Comcast Cable as my ISP. I also had a Dell Laptop that was wirelessly connected via the router.
When I first set up the iMac, I connected the dell router to the back of the iMac with my Comcast Cable connected to my dell router and it worked fine.
Then, when I got the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station, I connected the dell router to the Airport Extreme and it brought the internet and email to a snails pace. Then, I disconnected the Airport Extreme and reconnected the dell wireless router to the back of the iMac and everything was back to normal.
To use the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station, should I have eliminated the dell router and connected the Comcast Cable connection from the Comcast modem to the Airport Extreme?
Any help would be appreciated so that I can get the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station up and running so that it is faster than a snails pace like before.
Please start a new thread, Sometimes it is confusing to pose another question when the first one has not been answered.
Connecting 2 Routers together will only work when the 2nd one is not set to distribute IP's and it works as a bridge.
If both are set to distribute IP's they work against one another.
